Emergency Floor is the first product of Good Works Studio, Inc.; a social enterprise founded by two graduate students at Rice University and based out of Houston, TX. Our team has experience in the construction industry, advanced fabrication, and architectural product design.

Good Works Studio is equipped with the skills required to design and innovate in markets that demand smart, economic solutions. We believe in the power of design to innovate, that we should be actively working to make the world a better place, and that the fusion of these two can change the world. That is what Good Works Studio is all about.

Since Scott and Sam were both graduate students at the Rice University School of Architecture they have been working to design and prototype Emergency Floor, a commonsense solution that will help save the lives of refugees around the globe. Their goal is to make raised flooring a basic provision to those living in temporary homes around the world, and they are well on their way.

Over the years, the team has refined the design through partnerships with experts working in refugee camps and the IKEA Foundation’s BetterShelter to test our prototype.

Recently, we were invited to pilot our system in Nepal to support victims of the recent earthquakes and in Iraq to support families fleeing the terrors of ISIS. USAID has flagged us for funding through their Development Innovation Ventures Program, but we are tasked with raising $50,000 of our own. On June 15, 2015, we are launching a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo to make flooring truly accessible to those in need.
